Clinton and Clinton: Politics of Personal Self-Destruction

– The Almost Daily Binx, San Jose, CA; by Binx101

Night and Day

But the single most damaging elements of the Hillary campaign have been her own – usually unscripted – words.

Cole Porter may have immortalized the tune – singing of undying love; however the night and day of Obama and Clinton politics decry polar opposites with nary a shred of love.  While the differences between the two camps are dramatic – they are nonetheless, predictable.  On this Memorial Day week-end, replete with non-stop broadcasts of WWII themed cinema, one could envision the Clinton battleship intercom summoning damage control and launching countermeasures.  The sad fact, however, is that the damage to the Clinton battleship is directly attributable to poor seamanship and the most damaging blows have come from its own guns.

The Obama camp has issued only one official statement with regards to the latest Clinton gaffe, using June as a political month in which anything can happen, declaring it to have “no place in this race” and “unfortunate.” Of course, the arguably fatal allegory, including  turn-around historical events such as the tragic murder of RFK, has ignited incredible acrimony among mid-grounders and has launched a diving contest of Super-delegates off-the-fence.  The rebuke of Hillary’s incredibly insensitive comment has led many to question her campaign’s rhetoric of her Stately prowess.

Not unlike the Titanic, the Clinton battleship was outfitted with less life-boats than were necessary, because of a false sense of security regarding the ship’s integrity, structural superiority and quality of construction.  There was little consideration of the Captain’s and Crews’ seamanship to plot a course that would safely deliver its payload in an effective and meaningful manner, relying carelessly on outdated maps and retired Admirals to sail uncharted waters.  Many refer to this carelessness as a claim  of ‘entitlement’ that emanates from the bowels of the Democratic Leadership Committee – a modern study in political hubris. But the single most damaging elements of the Hillary campaign have been her own – usually unscripted – words.

Hillary Blames Obama Campaign – Bill Clinton: Plays the Pity Card

What we hear is Bill Clinton complaining that Hillary is paying for his sins

In a widely predicted flourish of countermeasures, Hillary Clinton accused Barack Obama of driving a misunderstanding regarding her latest episode of hoof-in-mouth disease, and the ensuing media melee.  Truth be told – Obama spokespersons were in unison around all media most demonstrably steering clear of the maelstrom created by Clinton’s own words.  Almost like clockwork, the Clinton machine of Democratic Dinosaurs has been reverting to type and offering arguments that the Obama campaign has shaped the media and general public’s perception of her comments.  If this were possible, we suggest that the Clinton campaign would have been over on February 5th, 2008.

Despite numerous comments by Barack Obama, supporting the legitimacy of a protracted primary race, thus offering no support to those demanding she drop out – the Clinton campaign has been relentless in launching ad hominem attacks against Obama and apparently engaging in paranormal mathematics.

Meanwhile, Bill Clinton has engaged in another dimension by declaring that Hillary Clinton is being treated unfairly.  Understandably, one contestant will win and one will lose, but to listen to Bill Clinton – the mixed race, Barack Hussein Obama has had more favorable treatment.  Not unlike his colleague and Clinton operative Gerri Ferraro, who decried that Obama already had an advantage because he was a black male ( a conclusion that may eventually earn Ferraro a well deserved psychological evaluation); Bill Clinton has begun singing a chorus of “Shame on you America for not handing this to Hillary on a silver platter.”

This in itself might be tolerable if not for the fact that Bill Clinton plunged our nation into neocon control of Congress because of his inability to politically manage the Democratic party under his control.  Then, with the judgment of a hormonally dysfunctional high school student, he engaged in sexual dalliances with a young woman, in the White House.  The result of which further unhinged the Democratic party and shifted public opinion to accept that their president was a pathological liar – with a law degree, that might very well hit on ones teenage daughter at a fund-raiser.  What we hear is Bill Clinton complaining that Hillary is paying for his sins – a potential reality that in part, may not be as far-fetched as it appears, but not for the same reasons as he may think.

Campaign Leadership is Prologue

unwavering campaign message, even under severe attack by both McCain and Clinton operatives

Considering the campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, the startling differences of leadership have been pronounced to the degree that it is reflective not only of their political supporters but an indelible mark of their individual leadership styles and capabilities.  The practices of the Senators have received far more scrutiny than in recent elections, and thus, have been revealing to degree that would have escaped previous presidential races, if not for the unusual nomination contest this year.  Barack Obama, has been the beneficiary of this extended nomination process in our final analysis.

Average Americans that are certain to vote Democratic in the fall have had a glimpse into leadership styles, communication skills and the ability to manage a cohesive message.  Team building, as a very important component of executive leadership skills, have also been Night and Day. The dramatically different leadership styles and subsequent results from a team perspective are evident in the exponential growth of Obama’s supporters from grassroots beginnings – in contrast to Clinton’s campaign that has been borne from party elders in the NY Democratic machine coupled with National party elders that were very comfortable with more-of-the-same.

We respectfully submit that the Hillary Clinton campaign is terminal not because of Team Clinton’s assertions of unfairness, sexism, etc… but rather the fact that Obama’s lack of political ballast of Democratic Dinosaurs, his working knowledge as a Professor of Constitutional law; and, his ability to inspire and deliver an unwavering campaign message, even under severe attack by both McCain and Clinton operatives, has continually propelled Obama.  In addition the youth movement that has gained considerably more momentum will be very important to the future of our Nation’s healing process.

We further submit that the youth of our Nation have every right to be a deciding component in choosing the next president of the United States considering the fact that the current president has squandered our reputation, squandered many American lives and squandered our treasury’s surplus, largely at the expense of the next two generations.  As a Nation we have seen what tenured political leadership has delivered as a largely uninspired electorate stood by idly, addicted to chest pounding and fairy-tales.  Indeed they have every right to weigh in on the change in our political leadership.

Political Round-up : Lowdown on the High Points

– 3 May 2008, The Almost Daily Binx, San Jose,CA; by Binx101

The Unbearable Lightness of Being

“… he found the spotlight irresistible and commenced shooting at his feet …”

A group of supporters were still critical of Barack Obama for appearing on FOX News with Chris Wallace on Sunday.  However, it seems that Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the center of a controversy, has managed to steal the ultimate spot light and transform his life’s work into little more than potential recurring characters on future episodes of “South Park,” and possibly America’s newest icon for “insane”.

Reverend Wright, upon accepting Barbara Reynolds’ (a vociferous Clinton supporter) invitation to speak at the National Press Club performed what appeared to be ‘stand-up.’ While he may have thought this was an opportunity to clear his name … he found the spotlight irresistible and commenced shooting at his feet and dancing to avoid injury, thus providing the corporate media with another 60 minutes of material in which to document the Pastor committing professional suicide by becoming a statistic in the National register of  ‘WTF?’

Play It Again Sam …

“… Vieira felt compelled to offer each interrogative with a painful grimace …”

Michelle and Barack Obama also sat for an interview with Meredith Vieira on NBC’s today show.  While the Obamas’ performance was considerate and patient, it is the opinion of The Almost Daily Binx, that a Coffee Vending machine could have performed better than Vieira.   She articulated a script that didn’t account for the Obamas’ complete answers – thus rendering her follow up questions (which she didn’t have the professional chops to edit on the fly) sounding as though she wasn’t listening to the answers she had just been given.

As we understand that Nielsen Demographics insist that this was still well over the relevant IQ average of daytime television viewership – it would have been thoughtful to edit Vieira’s interview by eliminating the redundancy or completely less painful if they had just eliminated Vieira.  We’re still mystified as to why she felt compelled to offer each interrogative with a painful grimace.  Was she emoting the severity of her consternation with answering the same question over and over?

Hillary Chief Strategist at Casting Call

“… McAuliffe lost his mind … screaming thank you … to FOX News …”

Early voting in Indiana appears to be favoring Barack Obama over opponent Hillary McCain Clinton.  Obama is looking for victories in both Indiana and North Carolina in order to completely reverse the effects of McCain’s Clinton’s predicted win recently in Pennsylvania.  It was one day later that Terry McAuliffe lost his mind and began auditioning for FOX News as a paid analyst, presumably as soon as Clinton bows out of the race.  He was last seen screaming thank you to any cameras and microphones in range, to FOX News for their ‘fair and balanced’ coverage of McCain Clinton, Rush Limbaugh and the Republican’s hopeful for Democratic nominee.

The quid pro quo of the ramifications of  lying with dogs was never so apparent as has been the comfort with the McCain Clinton camp in making new allies in the Republican equivalent of the former Soviet Union’s News Agency / Propaganda Network.  Another small omen.

John McCain and Hillary McCain Clinton Sing a Duet

“… their lack of understanding the devastating ramifications of their proposals is merely a glimpse into the future …”

Both presumed Republican Presidential Candidate , and Democratic Nominee contender have again agreed to propose an essentially overt act of typical political distraction, by offering the Nation a small and limited suspension of the national gas surcharge.  This surcharge goes directly to the Department of Transportation super-fund which employs tens of thousands of Americans in pursuit of repairing Interstate routes and transportation infrastructure in all 50 United States.

We believe that that the ‘quick fix’ mentality of both McCain and McCain Clinton would inspire them to recommend a fix that would thrust untold numbers of Americans out of work in order to seem as though they were being assertive in larceny that they proclaim as energy policies.  The shallowness and the lack of depth in their recommendations and their lack of understanding the devastating ramifications of their proposals is merely a glimpse into the future, should either of these political porkers be successful in reaching Presidential office.

John McCain Diagnosis : PTD – Puppet Tendon Disorder

28 April 2008, The Almost Daiy Binx, San Jose, CA; by Binx101

Don’t Shoot the Messenger

” … it doesn’t seem that he actually believes the words he speaks.”

There’s no question in any reasonable person’s mind, that there is something wrong with John McCain.  Not just wrong in the sense that he has an empty vagueness in his eyes.  There are number of reasons for that including sleep deprivation and constant traveling.  Private corporate jets may have certain advantages but constant travel is still no picnic.  Circumvention of Senate and Election rules with respect to improperly reporting his rides on wife Cindy’s plane notwithstanding – the pace is tough for Senator John “Loop-Hole” McCain and we think he deserves the benefit of the doubt.  That is to explain the emptiness in his eyes.

As for the emptiness in his words, we suggest that his puppeteers have been trying to change his lines at a pace that is not commensurate with his ability to incorporate them in a worn series of platitudes and talking points.  When he says that Barack Obama doesn’t understand the poor -because he’s opposed to paying them off for a 2 month suspended federal gas tax –

But for that matter did Howdy Doody actually understand the words of Buffalo Bob ???

Did Kukla, Fran and Ollie actually have an equal understanding of the dialogue ???

Isn’t it safe to believe that Jerry Mahoney and Knuckle-head Smith did not necessarily understand the words that Paul Winchell provided their wooden lips???

It truly seems as though John McCain doesn’t believe the words he speaks.  Perhaps, it would be more precise to say that it seems he doesn’t understand the words he appears to mouth.  We all saw Independent Joe Liebermann feeding him and correcting him on the talking points in Iraq.  We’ve heard him confuse Shia and Sunni, while clearly not understanding the intricacies of dozens of other violent special interests in the area.  And we’ve listened to him when he flies-by-wire and “my friends” his staff is all nail biting and rocking horses until he stops talking, scrambling to write explanations for his latest gaffes.

The Rapport of the Puppet and Master

“… he’s never had to buy health insurance. “

We submit that the problem is not necessarily John McCain, but perhaps a division in the people that pull the strings and feed the lines.

Certainly, John McCain can’t claim to have a better working knowledge of the poor than the former inner-city activist Obama ? If one factors in the Budweiser Beer Demographics available to him (“Loop-Hole”), we think even in an Ashcroft type semi-coma, McCain couldn’t possibly suggest a leg up on the downtrodden data ??

While certainly he (“Loop-Hole”) can speak volumes on Government provided health-care (John McCain has never had a job other than to work for government and have his salary paid for by taxpayers. While he has received millions of dollars from lobbyists, corporations and special interests, he has never worked in the private sector) he’s never had to buy health insurance.  He’s never, been poor.  He’s always been the pasty white son of an Admiral, later adopting a cowboy nick-name.

So why the odd behavior?

Why the illogical arguments?

What caused the shift in talking point details?

We believe this will be answered in the current weeks when the press focuses on the shifts in the powersbehind the curtain.  The entangled web of strings that control movements of the campaign. The sudden shift into policies ostensibly designed to distract the eletorate from the actual inconsistencies of John “Loop-Hole” McCains record.  A record of more about-faces than a typical Navy Drill Team practice.  If only it were tendonitis.  We don’t fear John McCain – but we are very suspicious of the origin of the puppeteers that operate him.

Why The Democratic Race is Good for America

Campaigns Preview the Future

“… politicians have … acquiesced to the pleas of their children or youthful constituency and are enthusiastically supporting Obama …”

Conceivably, the American electorate (and the world), is receiving more detailed information about the candidate and prospective opposing candidates than any previous U.S. Presidential contest in World history.  Much of the information is factual, including anecdotal evidence subject to interpretation, and a significant portion is commentary, not unlike this blog.  Some of the commentary is genuine, some is cleverly veiled marketing collateral and some is frustrated and blatant vitriol.  The form has been the same for as long as mankind has been walking upright, but by sheer volume – political scientists 100 years from now may deem the shift in delivery and number of information paths, including the conversational venues provided by the Internet, as a significant improvement or a confounding impediment to traditional politics.

Currently, only a clinically delusional patriot would consider that Hillary Clinton or John McCain are competitive to Obama in his masterful communication style and skill; and moreover, the finely tuned political machinery that he has inspired from essentially grass roots seedlings.  His campaign’s ability to communicate using the Internet network of supporters, if nothing else, indicates that he has a more youthful, intellectual and dynamically connected base.  As we have seen in repeated examples, children of voting age and younger have begun to influence their parentage in supporting Obama.  More than a handful of Nationally visible elected politicians have expressed they acquiesced to the pleas of their children or youthful constituency and are enthusiastically supporting Obama.

How Does One Use The Google on the Internets?

“… her Internet debut was a broadband resounding ‘thud’…”

Both McCain and Clinton, seemed to have approached the Internet and associated technologies as some ‘new fangled fad’ in contrast to  Obama’s campaign’s adept use of technology as a key tool in order to raise money, increase visibility and promote unity among his supporters.  Considering that the youngest of our adults and their future children will bear a considerable burden from the feckless leadership of Republicans, the intrusive will of a skewed Judiciary and its appointment of a political puppet to the presidency;  it is more important than ever that they (the youngest of our adult electorate) take great heed in their choice for the next President of our economically challenged, globally scorned and socially damaged United States of America.

Hillary wanted to have the great conversation – except – she isn’t a particularly good listener – and may even be a worse public speaker.  Her adoption of finger pointing is reminiscent of Saturday Night Fever and her speaking cadence is uninspiring, if not aurally disturbing.  The continuous head-nodding is more reflective of equine behavior rather than an indication that she is listening and is ultimately amateurish at best.  Her campaigning quips and spoken word are just short of torture and obliterate any message she may have – her comedic timing is unnatural – and her anecdotes are unskillfully delivered.  This may be in great contrast to her intellect and intentions, but her sophomoric communication skills are challenging, beyond political differences.  Likewise her Internet debut was a broadband resounding ‘thud’ and seemed more like it was using the Internet as little television sets.  There was no conversation, but rather a premiering of popular issues of the next campaign stop as perceived by her advance team.

Is this a Foyer or a Lobby?

“… because the party leadership needed a stooge …”

John McCain – just short of referring to the ‘Internets’ doesn’t exhibit that he actually has a clue about much of anything Internet.  Not unlike Hillary Clinton’s team,  the McCain campaign is replete with a complement of lobbyists that have a direct connection to recent activity, including the DOD’s selection of a European based Boeing competitor as the next recipient of a Billions of US Dollars in order to build the next version of the flying tanker. The scant amount of young people that seem to support McCain appear to telegraph involuntary servitude as opposed to the enthusiasm that typifies political campaigns.  The more mature supporters in concert with McCain are easily confused with the Washington Mutual television ads that feature a group of senior citizens in dire need of a nap.

It is inconceivable that any young adult, with unrestricted access to their own conscience, could support John McCain based on his record, his cantankerous demeanor or his battle with a consistent message.  His communication skills, while a shade more refined than Hillary Clinton,  can induce spontaneous narcolepsy. Mostly, they are continuous checklists of items, peppered with “my friends” and generally uninspiring platitudes.  We feel strongly that McCain doesn’t actually have a bland speaking style but rather has nothing to say.  When he does shoot from the hip, it appears the gun remains holstered and he fires at his foot – so – he more safely chooses to say nothing.  The press, unfairly criticized for not challenging McCain – hasn’t even done their warm-ups yet.  We predict he will begin planning a new career as a lobbyist before the actual November election.  He’s the Republican’s choice to pose as a legitimate candidate, because the party leadership needed a stooge, and the other candidates weren’t willing to take one for the team.

Will the Real Candidate Please Stand-up?

POVERTY CZAR ?

Hillary Clinton can’t leave the campaign trail or she’s finished politically forever because of all the investment that has been poured into her campaign through the NY Democratic machine as well as the Clinton turbine run by Bill.  She has to see it through – she can lose successfully – but if she quits, she’s toast. Which suggests why Bill Clinton is so determined and reckless.  We’re not suggesting that they aren’t generous people and good Democrats (whatever that means) but just think NAFTA and all the reinvention of the rationale and it paints a different picture of the vision of the Clinton brand.  Just think Health-care and how the conversation was converted into Insurance, not to mention the fact that Hillary was incapable of building a team to support her in the White House basement trying to solve the health-care problem because she rejected open discussion.  And then top that with a term right out of the Bush-Cheney playbook – POVERTY CZAR ?

“… unimportant to a man …. acknowledges that he’s the Republican Party shill ….”

John McCain, with his supercilious speech in front of the motel where the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. was murdered, seemed more like a spoof than a reality.  A non-apology apology that was not only sleep inducing but nauseating in its saccharine incredulity. How it wasn’t met with the crowd abandoning him mid-platitude to get Carmel Macchiatos at Starbucks suggests to a reasonable mind that they were paid to sit there.  McCain has managed to turn the phrase “my friends” with his unique intonation, into a pejorative.  Not a uniting force, not a maverick, not a critical thinker – but rather one of the bag men for the Keating Five.  A man so detached from the crucial financial problems in our country that he waves Phil Gramm, one of the architects of the current sub-prime mortgage debacle as an economic adviser and co-chair of his campaign.  That’s not heroic, that’s idiotic – or – unimportant to a man who in doing so, acknowledges that he’s the Republican Party shill for the next election cycle.

We think Obama’s decision reflected a sober decision of an intellectual American President.

Barack Obama, while not without challenges, seems mostly plagued by his opponents arguing with themselves about his positions.  He has not made a habit of overreacting, although we are particularly disappointed that he accepted Samantha Powers’ resignation, albeit that may have been a more shrewd tactic than we understand. He has though, risen to every obstacle in an effective manner and his team has been very particular about timing and venue.  Even though Prof. Cornell West (whom we like very much) disagreed with Obama’s decision to avoid Memphis this past week, we believe it served to put the focus on the other two candidates lip-service and pandering and put the corporate media in a quandary over how to cover the events.  Mostly, it left them with little spin, because it was difficult to conceal the fact that Clinton and McCain came off looking almost foolish.  We think Obama’s decision reflected a sober decision of an intellectual American President.

We are confident that this extended race is, in fact, the best potential vetting process, and will ultimately result in a greater number of Americans being able to discern fact from fiction and participate in the healing of our critically ill Nation and elevate the American Spirit.

Randi Rhodes Suspended : Air America Eating Itself

Remember Lenny Bruce ??

 … a satirical political commentary …

randirhodes.jpg

In a rare act of preemptive fetal position, Air America decided that it must suspend Randi Rhodes for comments she made at a private function, while on-stage, doing a monologue.  This self-inflicted response is indicative of a cowardice that can usually only be experienced in literature.

The flap developed as a result of Ms. Rhodes’ exercising her comedy / political chops at a sold-out fundraiser for Green 960 (960 AM), the San Francisco Air America affiliate.  The crowd was there specifically to hear Randi Rhodes, and she was promoted by the Clear Channel owned station, as a way to raise funds as well as a meet-and-greet for her listeners.

During her brief monologue, a satirical political commentary, not unlike a comedy act – she chose to drop the “F” bomb numerous times and describe Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro as ‘whores.’  Our agreement, notwithstanding, it was clearly a rebuke of the ‘Kitchen Sink’ tactics of the Clinton campaign and her comments were met with laughter, applause and howls at the San Francisco, Broadway Studio, the site of the evening function.

Air America :  Follow Your Pilot’s Instructions

“What a cowardly act !”

green.jpgSimply stated, Air America could have stayed out of it, and, if brought to task by Liebermann type Democrats – such as Clinton and Ferraro – they could have hung tough and preferred that the Team Clinton bring this into the spotlight by drawing attention to it.    Instead the Greens (owners Air America) decided to inform the Blues (Champions of firee speech) that they were seeing Red over Rhodes comment, to avoid publicity.

What a cowardly act !  Instead they assumed the fetal position that made the our Congress famous, with the requisite hand-wringing.  What an inappropriate and capitulating response to the boogeyman.  Progressive Radio – Lite just showed their Democratic New York Machine credentials and were showing the money changers that they wouldn’t stand for NY’s Hillary being beaten by the truth; even though Clinton has managed to “mis-speak” on numerous occasions.

We do though believe that Randi Rhodes’ comments were an afront to prostitutes.

Obama Climbing Mount Pennsylvania Despite Detractors

Obama Campaigning – Always Challenging, Rarely Negative

“Lou Dobbs  … incinuated … Obama … encouraging ethno-centric divisions….”

The revolution of news cycles has finally slowed to a hum following a tire screaching return from the Easter break.  The brief respite has inspired the following lexicon:

  1. PUNDIT: Often and irritatingly mispronounced ‘PUN-DINT,’ refers to political analysts,  in common usage.  It’s origin is considered to be English language use in Colonial India and refera to a native Indian guide trained in observing the far-off frontiers and near inaccessible landscape and delivering cogent observations of the same to authorities.  We consider that many of today’s political pundits have beendobbs2.jpg visiting far off lands where they have become deluded into believing they are legitimate journalists and their fictional observations of utmost importance to the American Public.    Lou Dobbs comes to mind, as he has incinuated that Barack Obama is pandering to Mexican Americans and encouraging ethno-centric divisions in the voting population because he received the endorsement of Bill Richardson.  He further suggested that New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson’s endorsement of Obama and subsequent words in Spanish, was divisive and somehow un-American; because it hails divisions in our society (by Democrats) which leads us to our next word.
  2. Psychotropics: Pharmaceuticals that can not only perform incredible feats for shareholders, but occasionally can transport a severely suffering patient from despair to the safety of common sense and reason. Often the only life-line to uselfulness for some.
  3. Great Wall of China:  The polar opposite of the Statue of Liberty – but we digress.

Barak Obama and Bill Richardson have not responded to Lou Dobb’s assertions, or rather, incinuations that thier bridge building and very well received rally was a derisive and divisive.  However, Air America’s Sam Seder, not only provided sufficient clips of Dobb’s broadcast but also very worthwhile commentary while filling in for Randi Rhodes on 25 Mar 08.

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania and North Carolina Polling Indicate Upward Trends for Obama

“…  an impassioned speech …  singularly symbolic of American Patriotism.”

Despite Lou Dobb’s odd observation of the Richardson endorsement, it is apparent that richardson_obama.jpgthe brief Easter respite has revealed a positve assessment by the electorate of Sen. Obama’s handling of Reverend Wright’s provocative comments. Although Wright’s words and a montage of his most controversial comments were on a near continuous loop throughout corporate media broadcast assets. Obama never cried foul, never claimed “shame on you”and instead gave an impassioned speech, that if nothing else, was singularly symbolic of American Patriotism.

Polling results and a good story were available today and can be viewed at 411mani.com here. They are particularly interesting results since the Obama campaign hasn’t even begun their actual campaign strategy in Pennsylvania.

Pundits Gone Wild

“… Brian Kilmeade walked off the set of Fox …”

Pundits were covering the gamut last week en masse.  It included everything from wallace.jpgkilmeade.jpgdeclaring an end to the Obama’s campaign to FOX News broadcast face-offs because of objections by other Fox news personalities. Uncomfortable with fellow info-tainers harsh and somewhat inappropriate commentary on the matter, Brian Kilmeade walked off the set of Fox and Friends, and was followed by Chris Wallace offering some further criticism of  Obama-bashing co-hosts Steve Doocey and Gretchen Carlson.

We think Obama has touched many more Americans, than the polls accurately reveal, or that Clinton campaign leadership calculated.  Pennsylvania may in fact, be much more contentious than Ed Rendell or other Clinton supporters realized and could very likely be both the defining and ultimately unifying stage for the party in order to address the Republican campaign distortions of John McCain.

Spitzer Resigns – Ferraro Maligns – Clinton Declines – Barack Defines

Eliot Spitzer – Doubles Over

“… many think he invented crimes that didn’t occur. “

The acceleration of gravity – ( 9.80665 m/s2 ) may just sound like numbers in a text book, but to anyone that has witnessed the effects of gravity on bodies in motion, the effects are unmistakable. Its clear that Eliot Spitzer didn’t have to remember the names and faces of the folks he passed on the way up … because in the whir of his decline, they would hardly be recognizable.

spitzer

While this is a very sad story for politically tenuous NY, it is a great reminder that the disease of Hubris is agnostic politically. The believing of one’s own marketing collateral tends to be the first tip-off. Just short of walking around New York State in a Cape, the former Attorney General (now former Governor) was a media darling and bubble burster. He made news. In fact, many think he invented crimes that didn’t occur.

Geraldine Ferraro – Doubles Down

“… going out of her way in order to keep the spotlight on this debacle”

From our frightening but true desk, we learn that cantankerous Fox Contributor and former Democratic VP Candidate Geraldine Ferraro is crying foul. Even though she came within 4 milliseconds of calling Presidential hopeful, Barack Obama, ‘uppity’, she maintains that she has been taken out of context.

We’ve read the transcripts, we’ve listened the broadcasts and we’ve listened to theferraro denials. We believe that she is correct. She has been taken out of context because if one were to put them completely in context, Geraldine Ferraro would not be seen as quite the Liberal champion of rights that she portrayed herself as the child of immigrants years ago in her speech at the Democratic Convention.  A simple explanation without the rough edge and a kind word would have put this away for good. But Geraldine Ferraro, seems to be going out of her way in order to keep the spotlight on this debacle, using her experience in a Presidential election as the foundation for her strategy.

Hillary Clinton – Double Dares

“… showed far more savvy by not reacting …”

Apparently what’s good for the gander is not good for the goose. Not that this adage is really at play, but we did find it odd that Barack Obama accepted the resignation so quickly of Samantha Power over the “monster” gaffe. Hillary showed far more savvy by not reacting other than to use, good friend and colleague Sen John McCain’s approach to this – by distancing herself from the sentiment but remaining engaged with the person. We think it was the right thing to do – from a collegial perspective, however considering that Ferraro has nothing to lose, a case of laryngitis for Geraldine might be just what the doctor ordered for Hillary.

Hillary_smile_podium

Hillary took a not unexpected beating in Mississippi yesterday. The Senator from NY made no bones about it, but probably didn’t help things much when she announced “On to Pennsylvania” after the Texas and Ohio races, all but acknowledging that Mississippi was actually a State in the Union.

Barack Obama – Doubles Digits

“He should always smile – no matter what he has to say.”

Obama reigned over Clinton in Mississippi, continuing his dominance in smaller States where the Democratic Machine is not as powerful.  Highly motivated voting along ethnic lines was another observation, sadly, in this Southern State with an abundance of ‘esses.’

baracksmile.jpgBarack Obama does seem to be  smiling again, much more than over the last few days.  Our observation has been, that no matter what he has to say, it always sounds better when he’s smiling.    It’s a confidence thing.  He also is not particularly good at delivering a hammer.  The Clinton and McCain camps know this very well.  If anything undoes the Obama candidacy it will be him listening to well meaning but overly enthusiastic pundits who feel he must retaliate.  It is a losing strategy.  It is playing defense and it is not a game he does well.  He should always smile – no matter what he has to say.
